In 2019, I became the Director and Curator of the Irene Carlson Gallery of Photography (ulvphotography.org). Located in the heart of the University of La Verne’s main campus, on the garden floor of historic Miller Hall within the Department of Photography, the Irene Carlson Gallery of Photography is a vital center for civic engagement. Through a compelling program of exhibitions, lectures, screenings and discussions, that promote a critical dialogue about the role of contemporary photography today, the gallery generates collaboration, conversation and artistic growth between our students, faculty, staff and the local community.
Established in 1990, the gallery is dedicated to the University of La Verne’s commitment to diversity, inclusivity and community engagement within the broader context of intellectual life on campus. In addition to the contemporary photography exhibitions and events each academic year, the Gallery hosts an internship program where students learn curatorial methodologies, exhibition design and production.
All exhibitions and events are always free and open to the public.
