My teaching philosophy is focused on encouraging students to discover and question their own motivations for making art while providing them with the foundation and tools to continue to advance their education after graduation. In so doing, I work to I inspire the next generation of artists and leaders—ensuring that once they earn their degrees, they enter the world as engaged, independent, self-directed artists, scholars and citizens. The same dedication to advancing the discourse on expanded documentary photography, interdisciplinary approaches and community engagement that compels my artistic practice equally informs and stimulates my classroom. This translates into my courses in the way I create space for critical conversations about art and society and provide students opportunities for experiential learning, community engagement and interdisciplinary approaches to art.
The following are samples of work from my current and past students.
